2G3S Nature Walk at Stapleford Chalk Pit
24th July 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm BST
You are invited to join our next nature walk at Stapleford Parish Pit on Saturday 24th July from 2-3pm.
Stapleford Chalk Pit is a small nature reserve adjoining Magog Downs. A group of Friends have worked to improve the rich grassland flora and associated wildlife. The pit was formed by the extraction of a hard chalk (clunch) to be used for building material and the repair of local roads.
70 wildflower species have been recorded on the site and several species of butterfly.
To access the site, park in the Magog Trust car park and walk back down the road towards Stapleford. After 200 yards there is a signpost to the Pit on the left, just after the Gog Magog Cottages private road. Walk up the path and go through the gate at the top. Note there is a parking charge to non-members of the Magog Downs if you decide to drive.
Sturdy footwear is advised and sun protection/water as appropriate. Note these walks are intended to raise awareness of our local wildlife sites and open to all, though you attend at your own risk.
Further details of the Pit can be seen here
