DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join me for a walk around the Nine Wells nature reserve from 2 p.m. on 22nd July to observe the interesting flora and fauna of this woodland site.  Nine Wells is of historic and geological importance as the chalk springs act as the source for Hobson’s Conduit and traditional water supply to Cambridge. \nAs usual stout footwear is advised and also long trousers as a precaution against any nettle/brambles.  Sun protection is also advised if appropriate and water if it’s a hot day.  Our Nature Walks are intended to raise awareness of local wildlife sites and associated fauna and flora. Participants are welcome to share their knowledge. As you come out of Stapleford on the Cambridge Road you will see the Rose pub restaurant on the left. Continue over the road bridge and take the first right up the former quarry service road. Continue for 250m and the small car park is on the right. \nSturdy footwear is advised and appropriate attire for the weather conditions. SUMMARY:Nature Walk - Stapleford Chalk Pit - 18 June
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nJoin me for a walk at Stapleford Chalk Pit on Saturday 18 June – no need to book.  I shall lead the walk\, which is being hosted by the Magog Trust for the benefit of 2G3S. \nStapleford Chalk Pit is a small nature reserve adjoining Magog Downs.  Volunteers have worked to improve the rich grassland flora and associated wildlife.  The pit was formed by the extraction of a hard chalk (clunch) for used for building material and the repair of local roads.  70 wildflower species have been recorded on the site and several species of butterfly. \nTo access the site park in the Magog Trust car park and walk back down the roadside track towards Stapleford. After 200 yards there is a signpost to the Pit just after the Gog Magog Cottages private road. Walk up the path and go through the gate at the top for 2 pm. Note there is a parking charge to non-members of the Magog Downs if you decide to drive. \nSturdy footwear is advised and also long trousers as a precaution against any nettle/brambles.
