DESCRIPTION:Did you know there are only 210 chalk streams in the entire world\, and we are lucky enough to have one flowing through our local villages? \nFind out about the fragile and precious chalk streams of Cambridgeshire on Thursday 12th June\, 7:30pm at St Mary’s Church\, Linton at a screening of the beautiful film “Fugolburna”. \nMade by the community group Fulbourn Forum\, the film shows the challenges faced by Fulbourn’s chalk streams due to the development of the Greater Cambridge area and the actions local people are taking to improve conditions and sustain biodiversity. \nThe film screening (1 hour 10 mins) is presented by Linton Roots and Linton FROG as part of the Great Big Green Week. It will be followed by Q&A with the film makers and other chalk stream experts. \nThis is a free event\, no need to book. Refreshments will be available\, cash donations appreciated. Doors open at 7pm.

Led by an experienced facilitator\, Elisabeth Goodman-Spain. \nHuman-made climate change\, and associated impacts on nature and on our way of life are very real and very present. Yet\, this is still a subject that many people find difficult to face or talk about with those around them. It can be equally difficult to choose where to begin to take action\, let alone feel confident that such action will have sufficient impact. The net result can be isolating and overwhelming. DESCRIPTION:Our next book/books are ‘Silent Spring’ by Rachel Carson / ‘Silent Spring Revisited’ by Conor Mark Jameson.  ‘Silent Spring’ needs no introduction; it was a seminal work when it was published in 1962 and was a major factor in the banning of DDT some years later.  The second book was published in 2012\, and focuses on what happened to particularly birds in the 50 years after Silent Spring was published. \nWe have been meeting in The Rose\, Stapleford\, but this pub is currently closed\, so we are meeting at The Three Horseshoes\, Church Street\, Stapleford.  We have booked their private room for 8 pm. \nDo come along having read both\, either\, or neither!  If you know you are coming\, please email us at greengroupssss@gmail.com so that we can contact you if necessary.  If you have decided at the last minute\, check the website first for any last minute amendments.

DESCRIPTION:We are grateful to the Sawston Free Church for providing the venue for this event on Saturday 19 November. \nBring along your broken item and a skilled volunteer will help you fix it!  We can tackle a wide variety of repairs including clothes and fabrics\, electrical items\, jewellery and other items.  We may be able to accept some repairs on the day\, but please note that for electrical repairs in particular it is better to book in advance. DESCRIPTION:In May we had an interesting discussion about ‘Doughnut Economics’ by Kate Raworth.  We have decided to meet quarterly\, and so our next meeting will be at The Rose\, Stapleford\, at 8 pm on 25 August. \nThe book we have chosen this time is not so much theory\, more one person’s account of how we can build a livable future for all in response to the climate crisis.  It is: \nA Bigger Picture: My Fight to Bring a New African Voice to the Climate Crisis \nand is written by Vanessa Nakate\, a climate activist from Uganda.  Vanessa has noted that African countries bear a disproportionate share of the problems occasioned by the climate crisis\, while at the same time black voices are not being heard as much as those of white activists.\n \n‘A Bigger Picture is part rousing manifesto and part poignant memoir\, and it presents a new vision for the climate movement based on resilience\, sustainability\, and genuine equity.’ (A Good Read)\n \nThe book has been recommended by Katie Williams\, who will lead the discussion.  Do come and join us at the meeting – having read the book is preferable but not compulsory; you might just want to find out about the ideas and join in the discussion. \n
