SUMMARY:Great Shelford Repair Cafe
DESCRIPTION:Bring along your broken item and a skilled volunteer will help you fix it!  We can tackle a wide variety of repairs including jewellery\, electrical and electronic devices\, as well as clothes and fabrics. \nPlease do book in your item for repair – this helps us plan our schedule so we can avoid people having to wait\, and also means we can do our homework in advance to assess the repair. \nBookings will open on 4th August and close on the Tuesday before the event (16th September) or earlier if we reach full capacity. \nHere is the link to the booking form: \nhttps://bit.ly/4n7og21 \nPlease note that we will not be able to replace cracked screens on phones or tablets. The repairers are brilliant and can fix a lot of things but there are no guarantees. \nPlease bear in mind that we are always busiest when the cafe opens at 2pm – best to aim to arrive on time for your booked slot if you have one\, or anytime between 2:15 and 4:15 if you don’t have a booking. \nYou can read more about what happens at a repair cafe in our blog post. \nWe will have a stall to accept unwanted working electrical items\, so they can be checked for safety before being offered a new home. \nWe will also collect portable non-working (unfixable) electrical items and ensure these are properly disposed of.

SUMMARY:Dr Bike Stapleford - SATURDAY SESSION
DESCRIPTION:Our volunteer run bike repair workshops offer free ‘Dr Bike’ type safety checks\, with adjustments and minor repairs for a donation. \nWe are open every Tuesday between 3pm and 5:30 pm\, but we are also open on the last Saturday of the month with the same opening hours\, \nDrag that bike out of your shed or garage\, bring it to us\, and hopefully we can show you how we make it easier and safer to ride. Whether or not you ride regularly we will try to improve your bike with our simple checks and service. \nNormally only a series of simple things are needed to make a bike serviceable\, and then it should require much less effort to ride! And we can advise on best way to tackle other issues. \nWe offer a free 23-point check\, and we can do minor repairs for a donation (just to help us maintain a stock of commonly used spares). \nChildren are welcome but must bring a responsible adult with them as well as their bike. \nWe can’t undertake work on e-Bike electrics\, but we can deal with the non-electrical aspects of e-bikes such as brakes. Some of our volunteers are experienced in hydraulic bike brake repairs/fluid change. \nContact us either by email at drbikestapleford@gmail.com\, or just come and pay us a visit when we are open – every Tuesday afternoon from 3pm to 5:30pm and now also the monthly Saturday sessions.   There is no need to book.

SUMMARY:We Need to talk about Climate and Nature Action
DESCRIPTION:Great Shelford Library 2pm 26th February\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent organised by Cambridgeshire Libraries \nFree event\, but donations appreciated. \nThe theme of this workshop is “How to get started with individual climate action AND look after your wellbeing whilst doing so”. Led by an experienced facilitator\, Elisabeth Goodman-Spain. \nHuman-made climate change\, and associated impacts on nature and on our way of life are very real and very present. Yet\, this is still a subject that many people find difficult to face or talk about with those around them. It can be equally difficult to choose where to begin to take action\, let alone feel confident that such action will have sufficient impact. The net result can be isolating and overwhelming. This interactive seminar is an opportunity to air and hear your fears voiced with and by others\, through small group discussion and reflection in pairs and individually. It will enable you to explore how to begin positive action in a way that gives you meaning\, connects you with others and also nurtures your wellbeing. \nPlease book ahead in the library\, or contact: \nCambourne.referral@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

SUMMARY:Great Shelford Repair Cafe and SWISH
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE The venue for this event will be in the Memorial Hall in Great Shelford – this is a different venue from our usual Repair Cafes in Great Shelford. \n \nWe are combining this repair cafe with a clothes swap (SWISH). \nSWISH: The clothes swap relies on donations of unwanted clothes that are clean and in good condition\, brought in on the day or donated in advance. Once these are all on display\, the SWISH opens\, and people can browse the display and hopefully find something new (to them) that they can take away.  We’ll accept clothing on the day from 2:15 pm to 3pm\, and the SWISH will open at 3pm and close around 4:30pm. Anyone can choose items to take away – you don’t have to have donated clothes. If you have clothes to donate in advance\, contact us on the email address below. \nREPAIR CAFE: Bring along your broken item and a skilled volunteer will help you fix it!  We can tackle a wide variety of repairs including jewellery\, clothes and fabrics\, electrical and electronic devices\, and other items.  Please note that we will not be able to replace cracked screens on phones or tablets. The repairers are brilliant and can fix a lot of things but there are no g uarantees. \nBOOKINGS ARE NOW CLOSED BUT WE HAVE SOME CAPACITY FOR UNBOOKED ITEMS \nIf you have a bicycle which needs attention\, you don’t have to wait till this event – you can bring it to one of the weekly Dr Bike Stapleford workshops held each Tuesday afternoon from 3pm – 5:30pm at the Old Slaughterhouse on Church Street in Stapleford. \nBooking is highly recommended to avoid a long wait on the day\, and to make things fair we politely request only one item per person. \nHere is a link to the booking form:    https://forms.gle/vMfAtLoAffKHbRfu8 \nWe ask all visitors to read and sign our repair agreement as we are all volunteers. \nIt’s a free event but donations are very welcome. Tea and cake will be available of course! \nIf you have any questions\, please email 2G3Srepaircafes@gmail.com but please note we can’t accept bookings via email. \nOrganised by 2G3S (Going Greener in the Shelfords\, Stapleford and Sawston). https://2g3s.staplefordvillage.org.uk   – part of the Cambridgeshire Repair Cafe Network. \nYou can find this event\, along with many other repair cafes in the South Cambs area\, listed on the Cambridge Carbon Footprint website. \nLocation\nGreat Shelford Memorial Hall\, Woollards Lane\, Great Shelford\, CB22 5LZ

SUMMARY:Public Meeting on the CSET Busway (Better Ways for Busways)
DESCRIPTION:Better Ways for Busways (BW4B) are holding a public meeting at 19:30 on Tuesday 18th February at Great Shelford Memorial Hall\, Woollards Lane\, Great Shelford. CB22 5LZ. Everyone is welcome! \nIn January\, following approval by the County Council\, the GCP submitted their proposal to the Government to build their bus-only road (busway) through the green belt close to Stapleford\, the Shelfords and Sawston. The GCP busway proposal will now go to public enquiry where it will be examined in detail. \nThe scheme has been opposed by Stapleford Parish Council and a number of local organisations including the Magog Trust and Cambridge Past Present and Future. They are in favour of an alternative route for the busway that would be cheaper\, potentially more useful for village residents\, and have far less impact on our green spaces. There is more information on this alternative proposal on the Better Ways for BusWays website. \nAt the public meeting\, the CEO of Cambridge Past Present and Future (CPPF) will present the case for BW4B’s alternative busway route. \n2G3S encourages you to attend the meeting\, and voice your personal objection to the CGP scheme.  Objections must be submitted by 7th March. Please send in your objections to: www.bw4b.org/how-to-object \nDonations towards the costs of presenting the case are also welcomed. You can donate using the link on the CPPF website\, here.

SUMMARY:Discussion Evening-Perspectives on the Future of Personal Transport
DESCRIPTION:Perspectives on the Future of Personal Transport \nThis conversation evening is designed to be engaging and enjoyable. \nThere have been several trends in personal transport over the last few years and we will be concentrating on two of them. Both have an environmental impact. These two trends are coming together with the advent of electric cars. \nWe will start off with a short team quiz embracing the two trends so everyone has the same knowledge. The quiz will then broaden out into items for discussion. \nAt the end of the discussion\, we will examine some of the considerations for buying an electric vehicle\, and this will then lead to considerations of local infrastructure\, government policy and maybe\, if time permits\,  geopolitical impacts that will limit vehicle choices. \nIt is almost certain you will learn something about electrical vehicles\, their environmental impacts\, and possibly something about climate change including the two events in 1957 that really initiated the knowledge base we have built up today. \nSo you should come away better informed\, better able to weigh up pros and cons and have had an enjoyable experience. Does that sound worthwhile?  See you there!
