DESCRIPTION:Dr Bike Stapleford are running a special ‘Back To School’ session for children (with their parents\, for safeguarding reasons) on Sunday 3 September\, from 10am to 4pm. \nWe hope that this will be really useful if your child is going to cycle to Sawston Village College\, as they can learn the basic checks needed on their bikes. \nRegular mid-week sessions will continue to run in the Slaughterhouse in Stapleford every Tuesday afternoon from 3pm to 6pm\, till the end of September at least. \nA 23-point check is free of charge\, and a repair or adjustment can be done for a small donation that goes towards maintaining our stock of parts\, lubricants\, etc.

DESCRIPTION:In August we will be discussing ‘Reimagining Capitalism’ by Rebecca Henderson. \n \nIn a nutshell\, this book proposes that when businesses collectively and individually strive to serve a (morally good) purpose rather than simply maximise profits\, they can flourish in ways that exceed what might have been possible by following the traditional (profit trumps all) model. Many case studies are examined to support this view\, which variously cover environmental concerns\, equity between global north and south\, and how well employees are treated. \nAnd yet the world being on fire seems to be more of a news report than a metaphor at the moment\, with evacuations in progress from wildfires on Greek island resorts\, smog in American cities from wildfires in Canada\, and excessive heat in parts of the US directly disrupting transport and other services\, so how convincing is the thesis that enlightened capitalism provides a solution to the climate emergency? \nIf you want to join us at Book Club please send an email to 2G3S with “Book Club” in the title (so we can let you know of any changes and future events).

DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join me for a walk around the Nine Wells nature reserve from 2 p.m. on 22nd July to observe the interesting flora and fauna of this woodland site.  Nine Wells is of historic and geological importance as the chalk springs act as the source for Hobson’s Conduit and traditional water supply to Cambridge. \nAs usual stout footwear is advised and also long trousers as a precaution against any nettle/brambles.  Sun protection is also advised if appropriate and water if it’s a hot day.  Our Nature Walks are intended to raise awareness of local wildlife sites and associated fauna and flora. Participants are welcome to share their knowledge. DESCRIPTION:This event will include the Repair Café and also a SWISH clothes swap. \nLATEST NEWS (Tuesday 11th July): \nBookings have now closed.    However\, we do have some spare capacity to take a look at items (of all types) brought in on the day without a booking.  And of course there are no bookings needed for the SWISH.   If you do intend to bring an item for repair that is not booked in\, it is best if you arrive after 2:15  PM.\n \nFor the Repair Café\, bring along your broken item and a skilled volunteer will help you fix it!  We can tackle a wide variety of repairs including jewellery\, clothes and fabrics\, electrical and electronic devices\, sewing machines and other items.  Please note that we will not be able to replace cracked screens on phones or tablets. The repairers are brilliant and can fix a lot of things but there are no guarantees. \n(If you have a bicycle which needs attention\, you can bring it to one of the weekly Dr Bike workshops held each Tuesday afternoon from 3pm – 6pm at the Old Slaughterhouse on Church Street in Stapleford). \nPlease book your item in from Friday 23rd June until Sunday 9th July (extended to 10th July)\, via the following link: \nBooking Form – Great Shelford Rugby Club Repair Café \nBooking is highly recommended to avoid a long wait on the day\, and to make things fair we politely request only one item per person.  We ask all repairees to read and sign our repair agreement as we are all volunteers. \nE-waste: You can also bring along small electrical items like kettles or cables that are obsolete or beyond repair and recycle them in our e-waste bin. DESCRIPTION:LATEST NEWS – 17 April  On-line Bookings are still open for you to book in your repair! \nBring along your broken item and a skilled volunteer will help you fix it! \nWe can tackle a wide variety of repairs including clothes and fabrics\, electrical and electronic devices and other items*. We may be able to accept some items on the day\, but please note that for electrical repairs in particular it is better to book in advance. (Please note that we will not be able to replace cracked screens on phones or tablets). \n*If you have a bicycle which needs attention\, you can bring it to one of our weekly Dr Bike workshops held at the Old Slaughterhouse on Church Street in Stapleford. \nYou will be able to book your item in from 9th April using the booking form on the Cambridge Carbon Footprint web page: \nCambridgecarbonfootprint.org/events/whittlesford-repair-cafe-2/ \nWe encourage you to book in your item!  Bookings will remain open until 16th April but may close earlier if we become fully booked.  LATEST NEWS 17th April- Bookings have been extended.  Please book in you repair if possible! \nIf you have any questions regarding this event\, please email whittlesford.repaircafe@gmail.com \nIt’s a free event but donations are very welcome. DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join me for an informal local nature walk along Jenny’s path towards Hauxton\, meeting at 2 p.m. by the signposted entrance gate on Church Street\, Great Shelford\, opposite the junction with King’s Mill Lane.  We hope you can get to the walk by foot or by cycle as nearby car parking is difficult. DESCRIPTION:Join me for an informal local nature walk around Dernford Reservoir on Saturday 18th March between 2-4 pm. \nThe reservoir area has public access following amelioration of the former gravel quarry. There is a meadow flora around the reservoir and some interesting bird life. Meet at 2 p.m. at the car park next to the reservoir off Cambridge Road just south of the village (Map reference TL471511). As you come out of Stapleford on the Cambridge Road you will see the Rose pub restaurant on the left. Continue over the road bridge and take the first right up the former quarry service road. Continue for 250m and the small car park is on the right. \nSturdy footwear is advised and appropriate attire for the weather conditions. Binoculars would be useful. \nOur nature walks are intended to raise awareness of our local wildlife sites and share knowledge of the local fauna and flora.  Participants are welcome to share their knowledge. DESCRIPTION:In February we will be discussing ‘Regenesis’ by George Monbiot\, who attended the Cambridge Literary Festival recently to discuss the issues raised in this book. \nAs usual with George Monbiot\, this is a well-argued and challenging book.  The depth and breadth of his research is impressive\, and yet the book is very readable with the serious stuff being leavened with anecdote and humour.  His conclusions\, and their implications\, are both shocking and inspiring.  Do come and find out more\, whether or not you have already read the book – you’ll certainly want to afterwards! \nIf you want to join us at Book Club please send an email to 2G3S with “Book Club” in the title (so we can let you know of any changes and future events). \nVenue:  The Rose\, Stapleford.
